CHARTER – International charter possible into MPM (larger freighters) and also BEW (Beira) and MNC (Nacala), Nampula (APL) may also be possible with a smaller freighter, Pemba (POL) in the North possible with 737F size. Xai-Xai (VJB) is small runway, only domestic, circa 1800m so only props would land. UNHAS/UN plane operates from Maputo to Xai-Xai under shared service basis. Chimoio (VPY) may be able to receive intnl charter service.
COMMERCIAL – International widebody service into MPM with airlines QR, TK, ET, TAP. Regional flts with narrowbodies and domestic flights with narrowbodies and prop aircraft. BEW is served internationally via JNB and ADD but all with narrowbody capacity.
Container Ports at Maputo and Beira are main ports of entry with international SSL service. Smaller local ports also.
Flooding damage & cyclone season makes some of the road access difficult. In general, long transit times and road conditions are poor. Security issues in the North. Main affected areas are to the North and inland of Maputo in
JNB, South Africa is a main gateway to Maputo and Southern Mozambique. It is possible to arrange 15m trucks from JNB into Maputo, Beira and affected areas.
DAR, Tanzania can be used as an international gateway for trucking into Cabo Delgado, North Mozambique and destinations as far as Beira, Nampula, Pemba etc.
HRE, Zimbabwe is another international access point especially for mid-Mozambique & Beira region. Zimbabwe cargo is often ocean-freight imported via Beira port.
VAT rate is 16% . Registered NGOs in Mozambique should be able to request duties/taxes exemptions to customs authorities for entry to Mozambique. NGOs need to be registered in country.
