M6.8 Earthquake occurred overnight 8-9 September approximately 70km to South of Marrakesh.  Initial reports suggest widespread damage & 2000+ casualties are being reported. Maroc Search and Rescue teams and government resources already in the area. As of 10-September no official request for international assistance is made. Some SAR teams from Qatar, Spain & Turkiye are mobilised under bilateral agreements.

Air Access

Main international airport is Marrakesh Menara (RAM) > IATA RAK / ICAO GMMX with elevation 1500ft  & runway 3100m allowing larger aircraft to land. Cargo flights can be handled. Domestic & international connections land at RAK from Europe, Middle-East & intra Africa. Qatar, Turkish and Royal Air Maroc (national carrier) operating into RAK offering global connections. Flights are currently operating into RAK airport – airport is open.

Overland Access & Customs

EU trucking from Spain, France, Germany by ferry crossing to Tanger Med or Ceuta. Both FTL and LTL service ex Europe to Morocco. Some major roads into Atlas region cleared on 10-Sep by military. International Aid shipments will likely require consigning to a domestic Moroccan partner or consignee. Duty/tax exemptions – TBC.

Ocean Access

Major port in Maroc is Tanger Med (MA PTM) in the north, a huge transit port and container port. Large ports also in Casablanca (MA CAS) and Port of Agadir (MA AGA) to the South. No known effects on port ops.
