DeCA Asian Subsistence

The Opportunity

Priority and our strategic partners have been tasked to take on a subsistence surge from the United States to various locations throughout Asia (Far East mainly). The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) is responsible for ensuring their stores are stocked full of American products on each military base around the globe. The world’s supply chain struggles have created a vessel back-log for ocean transport, which has placed DeCA’s not in stock (NIS) levels in concern.
As a result, the Hawaiian/Priority Team have taken on over 1 million pounds of frozen subsistence to 6 different locations throughout the continent.

The Solution

Priority along with our Subsistence Partner, Commodity Forwarders, Inc. (CFI) had to carefully source the right amount of dry-ice for over-pack, reefer trucks on both ends, coupled with over 30 flights and a million pounds of perishable cargo into Asia.  Capacity planning with each airline to ensure we have the right amount of space for each day was critical.  Blending a handful of West Coast gateways to ensure we balanced the available market capacity was a real challenge.

Teddy Pendleton, Director of Government Programs at Priority said:

“The coordination between DeCA, their suppliers and our partner’s couldn’t have gone any better.  Constant contact and updates to ensure the right amount of throughput within the supply chain was a real challenge and we’re incredibly proud of our client and team’s ability to provide the Ultimate Customer Experience.
