M6.3 earthquake in Herat Province, Western Afghanistan has created large-scale humanitarian needs in the earthquake zone and surrounding region.

Reports suggest 12,000+ people are affected with nearly 1300 deaths.

Airport Access

Closest airport is Herat (HEA – 3000m runway) international airport which is mostly served only by domestic Afghanistan flights from Kabul. The likely international airport for aid delivery will be Kabul International Airport (KBL -3500M runway) with international connections to 12+ countries, served by both widebody and narrowbody aircraft operators.

UAE/PAK/INDIA/IRAN/KSA/TUR are main flight origins. The most significant cargo capacity on scheduled basis is via DXB/Dubai where Afghanistan carrier Kam Air operates a double daily widebody flight with A340/A330 aircraft type (max dims 1.60m). Cargo charter flights are also widely possible ex UAE.

Overland Access & Customs

Main usable overland border is from Pakistan as well as borders with Iran and Tajikistan. The border with Pakistan is open and it is possible to truck safely and commercially between main Pakistan arrival airports and the main Karachi sea port to the Herat area.
